Training, enabling and enriching lives

To effectively eliminate discrimination and promote equality of opportunity, we need to equip our people with skills, resources and confidence. This section concentrates on the training programmes our teams undergo.

Managing Change for Diversity

Almost everyone here at the Audit Commission has undertaken this specially developed course. Its aims include building understanding of the impact of negative behaviours and stereotyping, exploring different dimensions of inequality, multiple discrimination and identifying our culture and values.

The Disability Discrimination Act 2005 (DDA) and the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (RRAA)

In anticipation of both pieces of legislation, the Audit Commission organised a number of events from training days explaining issues faced by disabled people to events to develop awareness of the experiences of BME users of public services. As well as informing our staff about their legal responsibilities, we promoted our duties to treat disabled people more favourably and helping everyone develop the understanding and confidence to eliminate discriminatory practices. There is now a rolling programme in place to ensure this training reaches all staff in 2007/8. Read about the new initiatives we have planned for the future.
