Training

When you join, you'll agree a Personal Development Plan with your manager which will give you access to a whole range of training and development opportunities. We aim to give everyone the career development they need, whether that's related to management, technical skills or personal development. This could range from computer-based training to sponsorship for a professional qualification.

We aspire to become a learning organisation and encourage staff to share learning through networking and knowledge management systems. We also have corporate development programmes to support change, leadership and the work we do.

Our small, in-house training and development team is here to provide professional advice, deliver training courses and workshops and run specific team events. We sometimes use respected external providers, attending their public courses or asking them to tailor a course specifically for us.

You can access your training and development through whatever media suits you best, ranging from e-learning to one-to-one coaching; short courses to professional qualifications; learning through experience on the job to mentoring programmes; or induction to career counselling. For financial auditors, our CIPFA (the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) programme is the recognised professional qualification of choice, although on occasions other accountancy qualifications will be supported. Our graduate trainees are all encouraged to undertake CIPFA and are generously supported.

Everybody counts – that's why the opportunities for self-development are open to all – we want you to achieve your maximum potential and we see your development as a partnership.
