What you'll be working on

How many other organisations can match the Audit Commission for the scale, range of work and significance of their audit practice? So start here and who knows what changes you could make – for others and for yourself.

In a nutshell, you’ll be performing or overseeing audits to make sure taxpayers money is well spent, working with a wide range of public sector organisations (often on-site to build strong relationships and an effective understanding of pertinent issues), to make recommendations, which will secure meaningful change and improvement to public services.

The work itself is extremely varied and challenging – as you’d expect an organisation which audits huge public interest entities. For the majority of our positions, you’ll have the opportunity to move around your geographical area to work on different audits, covering a range of public services.

Led by District Auditors, as part of a local team, you’ll review clients’ financial arrangements, which, day to day, could involve looking closely at the application of accounting standards, auditing financial accounts and grant claims, as well as the testing of financial systems. You’ll also have the opportunity to be involved in the work we do to ensure our clients obtain value for money from taxpayers’ money.

In all that you do, you will be striving to effect the greatest impact, ultimately making a very real difference to the lives of countless people.

We also have some specific roles working purely with the NHS in our Trust Practice.
