About us
Accounting for your money
Every employee at the Audit Commission is very different, but they all have one thing in common: a passion to make life better for everyone. As an independent watchdog and auditor, we exist to provide crucial information on how public services are performing, monitor spending of public money, encourage exemplary practice and make practical recommendations for improvement, across a remit which covers local government, health, housing, criminal justice and fire and rescue services.
To effectively achieve this, we believe in a creative, progressive research-led approach, which values diversity and celebrates individuality in our workforce, because in order to serve a richly diverse community, you must represent it. With around two and a half thousand people working on an auditing remit which deals with £180 billion of public funds across around 11,000 local government bodies and NHS organisations in England, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's just about a lot of big numbers. The reality is, behind each and every number is a person whose life has been touched by the work we do.
If you like the sound of having a positive impact on the lives of millions of people just like you, join the team and you could be part of something big.
